Wilshire Corridor School

WCS is a new concept in education. Modeled on city exploration, strong academics, and affordability the school is currently in incubation stage, opening by Fall 2027 for 6th and 7th grades.
We’re actively recruiting founding board members & startup capital. Continue reading for more about our outlook and philosophy.

At WCS, we believe that academics and learning should be enriching and fun, that adolescents need time and opportunity to experience and understand their city and that family time—whether learning together, exercising together, exploring together or volunteering together—is precious and essential.
WILSHIRE COORIDOR SCHOOL

Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.
—John Dewey

Through our focus on teachers and curriculum, the opportunities in the Wilshire Corridor, and flexible programming with our families, we’re able to offer a tuition price that is much lower than many other schools. While our focus is on building our first seventh grade class, families interested in a possible eighth grade cohort are welcome to make an inquiry as well.

Academics.

At WCS, the curricula in each of our six disciplines are about much more than content, they’re about developing habits of mind and establishing and honing ways of thinking. Coursework in our six disciplines—Arts & Creativity, English & Writing, History & Geography, Mathematics & Logic, Science & Reasoning, Spanish & Latin American Studies—is engaging and thorough, and prepares students not just for college but for professional success and a lifetime of engaged learning. Students at WCS become proficient in the ways of thinking within different academic disciplines so that they’re ready for success at university and in their careers.

City.

The Wilshire Corridor is both the geographic and symbolic center of Los Angeles. Our city is the second largest in the country and home to more immigrants than any other in the United States.

More than one-third of Angelenos were born outside the United States and hail from over 140 countries, speaking over 200 languages of which English and Spanish are the most prevalent.

Students at WCS will explore what it means to be engaged urban citizens in one of the world’s most diverse and celebrated cities by experiencing first-hand the cultural institutions, diverse neighborhoods, and built environment in the Wilshire Corridor through field trips, site-studies, guest speakers and special programs.

Family.

At WCS we’re committed to creating a community of teachers and students that represents the marvelous diversity of Los Angeles. Beyond our school community, we know that family time for our students is precious and so we’ve carefully constructed a daily and weekly schedule that respects family time. We’ve strategically placed vacation breaks in our academic calendar so our families can travel and spend time together. Because lifelong fitness is essential to healthy living, WCS students complete their annual fitness requirements via activities with their families, as members of gym and fitness clubs or as athletes in club sports.
